Introduction
Participants are split into two groups, group A and B.
Each group works together to create a still scene based on a theme provided by the facilitator.
One group presents their scene first, allowing the other group to observe and explore what is presented.
There is a short discussion, then the second group shows their scene and has a discussion.
Instructions
All participants who wish to participate get to be in the scene- this may be part of the challenge for some groups!
Once the scene is set up, the participants remain silent.
No one is here to judge, just observe and learn.
Discussion ideas:
What did you see?
What do you have questions about?
Was there a specific thing that made you feel something?
Ideas for themes: Love, connection, hate, hope, family, home, belonging, outcast, freedom, oppression.
Wrap-up
How did it feel to be a statue? How did it feel to observe?
Many times this activity brings up ideas related to cultural context. Is there a symbol that means something significant to you culturally? Are there poses that always convey the same meaning?
